I’m just a girl who likes to play in the mud. I love the way clay feels in my hands…the way it squishes through my fingers when I throw…and I even like the way it smells.
There once was a little girl with big brown eyes who loved to play in the mud. When she wasn’t playing in the mud…her other favorite thing to do, was color. She colored and colored until she didn’t want to color anymore, and then she played with her easy bake oven.
Many years went by, and the little girl with the big brown eyes grew up. She continued to play in the mud, she still liked to color too, but she didn’t use her crayons anymore, she found something better…beautiful creamy glazes. So she colored her mud with the pretty creamy glazes. But she couldn’t put it in her easy bake oven anymore…because it was broken. So, she put it in her electric kiln instead, and every time she opened her kiln…it was like Christmas!

Those are beautiful works of art. Clay was not my long suit. I usually stuck with making ashtrays. Poorly.
Thank you Stephen! The first thing I made was an ashtray too, in middle school. Mine wasn’t very good either! 🙂
I love this! I personally like to play in the dirt, as a gardener. In fact “Dirty Girls” is going to be my “D” blog for this challenge! LOL We used to live next door to a potter named Micki Gault, do you know her? (feat of clay) Its been a long time since we’ve seen each other, but I used to love to watch her work! Beautiful work, both the writing and the pottery!
Thank you Helen! Hahaha…I loved making mud pies when I was little. I love that name! Oh, that’s so cool! I wish I had lived next door to a potter when I was young. Her name doesn’t sound familiar, but I think I’ve heard of feat of clay. Is that in Texas? I’ll have to check her out. Thanks so much! 🙂
Such an anxiety reducer, squeezing clay and creating from it. You should check out my aunt’s clay art: Google Susan Eaddy. She’s amazing.
Yes, it is! When I work with clay I’m in my own little world, nothing exists but me and the clay. I definitely will, thanks! 🙂
The things you make from that mud are amazing 🙂 I love the birds. C was perfect, I wonder what you have in store for D…

Awww…Thanks! 🙂 I must admit, I love the birds too, and they’re fun to make! Thank you! D is for Dinnerware!
Ooh, I bet it’s lovely 🙂
It is, especially Porcelain and B-Mix. I think you would love it! 🙂
Oh my heavens, what beautiful work you do! I especially love the birds!
My work with clay is limited to playdoh but I really like playing with that. Perhaps someday I’ll branch out a bit so I can know what your type of clay feels like!
Thank you so much! When I was little, my favorite thing to do…other then coloring, was playing with Play-Doh! I loved it and silly putty too! Oh, you should try it, it’s wonderful! 🙂
You talented woman, you! What beautiful work you do–I love those little birds, and that plate with the leaf overlaid is stunning. I’ve mucked about with clay at different points in my life, but never produced anything as lovely as this. I think I’ll stick to word-mongering!
Awww…Thanks so much! I’m so glad you like it! I do some word-mongering myself. I’m working on my first novel called Raven Hill. If you’d like to see some sneak peeks, inspiration boards, meet some characters…you can check it out here. http://www.melindamariealexander.wordpress.com
